Temporal Variation and Spatial Distribution of Groundwater Level Changes Induced by Large Earthquakes

چکیده

Sustained coseismic changes in groundwater level due to static strain during earthquakes could be considered as an indicator of crustal deformation. These usually occur abruptly but recover slowly after earthquakes. High-frequency data indicate a time lag between the change well water levels and that aquifer. Abnormal post-seismic were observed, possibly caused by cross-formation flow, fracturing, or relief. Although sustained are generally induced local earthquake, they also triggered distant large earthquake has occurred at same tectonic plate. The magnitude polarity may vary wells different depths multiple-well stations, revealing additional information about complexity deformation subsurface. Coseismic falls dominated near ruptured seismogenic fault 1999 M7.6 which implied extension adjacent thrust fault. However, rises prevail most areas, suggesting compression plate convergence plays major role on island Taiwan

Temporal variation of large intraplate earthquakes in coupled subduction zones

The focal mechanisms of intraplate earthquakes within subducting lithosphere are frequently used to infer large-scale stress regimes induced by slab-pull, bending or unbending, and lateral segmentation and undulations of the slab . Numerous studies have further postulated that the intraplate activity is influenced by transitory regional stress regimes such as those associated with interplate th...

Temporal and spatial variation of drinking water quality in a number of Divandareh villages, Iran: With emphasis on fluoride distribution

Fluoride is found in all water resources at different concentrations and drinking water is the major source of fluoride exposure. Thus, because of the adverse effect of fluoride in low and high concentrations, the evaluation of its content in drinking water is necessary. In the present study, the temporal variations and spatial distribution of fluoride concentrations in the drinking water of vi...

A mechanism for sustained groundwater pressure changes induced by distant earthquakes

[1] Large, sustained well water level changes (>10 cm) in response to distant (more than hundreds of kilometers) earthquakes have proven enigmatic for over 30 years. Here we use high sampling rates at a well near Grants Pass, Oregon, to perform the first simultaneous analysis of both the dynamic response of water level and sustained changes, or steps. We observe a factor of 40 increase in the r...

Assessing Temporal and Spatial Variations of Groundwater Quality (A case study: Kohpayeh-Segzi)

Assessing the quality of groundwater is important to ensure the sustainablesafe use of these resources. However, describing the overall water quality condition isdifficult due to the spatial variability of multiple contaminants and the wide range ofindicators (chemical, physical and biological) that could be measured. Therefore, in thiscase study, some water quality parameters including Na, Mg,...

Spatial and Temporal Variations of Groundwater Quality for Agricultural Use in Gavkhooni Basin

In this study, the quality of groundwater aquifer of Gavkhooni basin was investigated in agriculture. For this purpose, water quality data related to 96 wells prepared by Isfahan Regional Water Authority during the statistical period 2015-2016 were used. In this study, sodium parameters, electrical conductivity, chloride, hydrogen bicarbonate and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) were used. Then, g...
